Have The Right Size Furnace Installed

Blog

If you need a new furnace, then knowledge will go a long way in making sure that you end up with the right one, and there is a right one. Knowing how to get the right one means understanding why one would be wrong. One of the major contributing factors to this lies in choosing the right size. Once you have decided on the right size furnace, then you want to have a professional install it for you. Should you attempt to install it on your own, there can be problems that can arise. Learn more about properly-sized furnaces and why professional furnace installation is important by continuing to read the information below.

Why professional installation is important

The first thing to understand about the importance of professional installation is preventing issues with regard to the proper functioning of the furnace. When you install the furnace on your own, you can end up having issues with it from the start. Fixing those issues won't be simple, since you won't have the knowledge to troubleshoot the problems when you aren't a professional.

Another important reason for professional installation is knowing that if something ends up being damaged on the furnace, it will be covered under the warranty. However, should you choose to install the furnace yourself, then it can be argued that you did something during the installation that caused the damage.

Why a larger-than-needed furnace is a bad idea

Some people have the misconception that going with a larger furnace is going to allow them to heat their home more efficiently because they think that the furnace won't have to work as hard to heat the house to the desired temperature.

However, the opposite is actually true. When a furnace installed in a home is larger than what is needed for the home, it will be less efficient. A furnace becomes efficient only after it has cycled through the initial warm-up. With a furnace that is too big for the home, once it goes through that warm-up and would normally hit its most efficient level, it will have already heated the home and shut off.

Too large of a furnace won't last as long. Many homeowners also think that having a furnace installed that is a bit large for their home means the furnace is going to last them longer before needing replacement since it won't have to run as long. They think this means it isn't going to work as hard as one that is the right size for the house.

However, for the same reason detailed above about the furnace going off shortly after the warm-up, the furnace will actually work harder on a regular basis. This significantly increases the chances you will have to replace it before you would have to replace one of an appropriate size.
